Doodhpathri
The valley of milk
Doodhpathri — the 'Valley of Milk' — is Kashmir's best-kept secret: a wide bowl of emerald meadow laced with frothy, milk-white streams that gave the place its name. It stays gloriously uncrowded, a soft alternative to the marquee valleys.
An easy day-trip from Srinagar through Budgam's villages, Doodhpathri is for travellers who want to picnic by the water, walk on grass that runs to the treeline, and breathe pine-scented air far from the tourist trail.
A day in the meadow
Spread out by the streams, hire a pony to the higher pastures, and follow the pine slopes toward Tousa Maidan. There is little commercial development by design — bring a packed lunch, and let the half-day unfold slowly. It pairs beautifully with a relaxed Srinagar itinerary.
Getting there
Doodhpathri lies about 42 km from Srinagar; the last stretch is a scenic mountain road best driven with a local who knows its turns and seasonal conditions. We run it as a comfortable return day-trip, or fold it into a wider valley tour.
