Amritsar

The Golden Temple city

Amritsar is the spiritual and cultural capital of Punjab, built around the luminous Golden Temple — Harmandir Sahib — whose gold-leafed sanctum floats on a sacred pool and welcomes everyone to its langar, the world's largest free community kitchen.

Warm, generous and full of flavour, the city pairs deep history with some of India's best food, and makes a natural gateway between the plains of Punjab and the mountains of Himachal and Jammu.

Golden Temple & the old city

Time your visit for dawn or after dark, when the gilded temple glows over the Amrit Sarovar. Walk the marble parikrama, share a meal at the langar, and explore the old-city bazaars and the Partition Museum nearby. Jallianwala Bagh, the memorial to the 1919 massacre, sits a short walk away.

Wagah border & Punjabi food

In the late afternoon, drive to the Attari–Wagah border for the high-energy 'beating retreat' ceremony between India and Pakistan. Come hungry: Amritsar is a paradise of kulchas, lassi and dhaba food. We handle the temple drop-off, secure parking and a timed run to Wagah so you arrive before the crowds.
